Great post, I agree journalling can be a freeing process...the act of writing on paper is an act of defiance away from digital devices that sap our energies ! Going back to feeling like a child I get very frustrated that my cursive handwriting is now such a mess after all this tapping on mobile !!! I like your idea for just maybe having the room to play and highlight text.
I totally get the "my cursive handwriting is a mess" thing. I used to have beautiful handwriting when I was at school. But like you said, the years of not-writing turned it into a mess π
So I've made it part of my practice, too; I try to write more slowly, drawing the letters if I can, making them more intentional instead of just scribbling at the speed of my thoughts. I'm getting better at it, my hand is remembering the shapes of the letter.
Not forcing anything, or criticizing myself when it doesn't come out like I'd have liked. Just being more intentional about it, and allowing the time and space to enjoy it. π
Iβm getting better at journaling in a more intentional way and not just tossing things in my Notes app that are generally lost to the abyss. I created a guided journal for kids (or anyone wanting to do some inner-child tending to) that champions the work from folks in the 2LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and disabled communities. I created My Me after I was unable to find something similar for our kidβs birthday last year that wasnβt heavily gendered, fatphobic, and/or only included the work of old (or dead) white men. I would be lying if I said I havenβt started using one myself lol itβs been a really soft way to connect with my own inner kid. I love the idea of actually using color in mine as well.
Oh that journal sounds awesome! Do you have a link? I'd love to take a look π And hell yes to using color. Anything that brings us joy is always a good idea. π
Iβm getting out the colored pencils today β¨ I canβt attach photos here but if you want to look inside you can see it on my IG @ava_robinson_23 or I can DM you photos but hereβs the link-
It's a lovely journal! π Feel free to disregard, but I have a suggestion.
Have you thought about adding some inside pictures to the Amazon page? I checked your IG and saw the video, it's great! But people who find your journal on Amz are not going to see it, and maybe they won't even consider purchasing it, which would be a shame. Just a thought - don't feel obligated to respond or anything. π
Yes! Iβm going back and forth with Amzon since Look Inside feature isnβt available to low-content so Iβm hoping I can do a work around and get them added. Thank you for your feedback- it means a lot.
Scroll to the "From the Publisher" section, and you'll see there are a few images from the inside pages. I don't know it it's simple to do, but something like this would make the Look Inside unnecessary, I think. π
Oh I feel your pain, sending hugs if you'd like some. π
For me it's above all about losing the records of my life. I have a very complicated family history, and sometimes I feel rootless, unmoored. Those journals were the only existing documents of my younger years, and now they're gone. π«€ *sigh* We live, we make mistakes, we learn, we keep going. π
Oh, sorry, I do not! I didn't write it, I was just linking it because I found the information useful. I agree, there's a lot of advertising. I didn't mind it too much because the links are relevant to the post. I even added the retro airmail envelopes to my Amazon wishlist ππ
I am in the process of moving from a mouldy home, so I have to throw a lot awayβ¦ but it means Iβll have a whole new canvas to start collecting (and using) more! So Iβm building my Amazon wish list πππ» canβt wait!
Ooof, I've been there. It's hard! π« I'm glad you're looking at it like an opportunity for new delights. πβ¨
If you find anything particularly delightful please throw me a link, I'm just starting as well (moved continents in 2022 and only now I'm focusing on journaling supplies and materials π).

πππ Oh, I meant on the page - I don't know how it's done, but take a look here to see what I mean https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BHLN4KML

Ohhh, yes! I reckon I can add them there xx
My teenage journals were burned as well. I miss them too.

Thanks π Glad you're here, thank you for the company. π
Do you have your Ultimate Guide to junk journaling on SubStack, please. The website is so full of adds I canβt read it.
